Leo is a gorgeous 5-year-old true blue roan, Percheron/Friesian cross gelding. He stands 16.1 hands tall with a big body mass, weighing approximately 1400 pounds. He wears a number 4 shoe all the way around. Leo’s Percheron features include his big bone, foot and build, along with his laid-back attitude that is very willing to please. Leo’s Friesian features are his beautifully refined head, his athleticism, grace, his intelligence and his willingness to learn. This combination of characteristics gives Leo that wow factor that truly makes him a special animal.

Leo has tons of personality and is very pleasant and friendly. He looks forward to seeing you! He will follow you out of the stall without a halter and will even stand without one to be groomed and tacked up. Leo stands to be mounted and will also side pass to a mounting block (a tree stump, log, truck, or whatever you choose) to mount him from. Leo will also lay down for you to mount or dismount! At your command, Leo will lay down from both the ground and from the saddle. He will also sit up like a dog and sit down on a couch as you can see in the video! He will even answer yes and no questions.

We have owned Leo for one year now. Leo was born and raised where we purchased him. Since owning Leo, he has been an all-around go-to horse for our entire family. He is a horse that you can take trail riding on the most extreme trails and always trust him to get you where you need to go and to get you there safely. It doesn’t matter how deep the mud, how wide the river or how rough the rocks- Leo is the horse that you can count on. Leo has been on camping trips and trail ridden all over the place. He’s even been to Arkansas and trail rode in the Ozark National Forest on the most rugged and extreme terrain we’ve ever ridden and he handled it like a pro. He was safe and sure-footed, strong, and confident. He is an outstanding trail mount.

Leo has done all sorts of ranch work under saddle. He has been used to rope wild cattle, and even catch and load wild bulls weighing up to a ton. He’s been used to sort and pen cattle at the stock yards. He has loaded semi-trucks. He has also been used to pasture rope off of. Anything you can think of that has to do with livestock- Leo has seen it and done it and has done it with a calm and confident attitude that makes it easy to get the job done and get it done right.

Not only is Leo an exceptional trail and ranch horse, but he also has all the bells and whistles. Leo can ride completely bridle-less; working completely off of your legs and your seat. He will turn right and left, lope circles while taking the correct lead, stops, backs and does it all, all without a bridle. If you choose to put a bridle on him, Leo will still do all of these things, plus he will one-hand neck rein, works off of leg pressure, he will do complete 360 degree turns when asked, he will back, he will side pass, has a big stop that is collected, and lopes circles taking the correct leads, all while being collected and composed. Leo carries himself with class and elegance.

Leo is also no stranger to hunting. We used him to pack deer from the woods. He has been hunted off as well. He is definitely safe with gunshots and has no issue whatsoever with any kind of dogs. He has been coon hunted off at night, and squirrel hunted off in the day. He will lead dogs and doesn’t pay any mind to them running around his feet.

Leo has been worked on all sorts of farm machinery out in the fields. He’s been hooked to a carriage, a one-horse wagon, and a cart, among other things. He will absolutely hook up and work any way you would want to use him. He is big and stout enough to pull a carriage, and plenty fancy enough for it too! He will sure turn heads with his extended trot, as he has a great headset and is very animated when he moves.

In just the last month we’ve used Leo as a “Roman Soldier’s horse” where he had to stand guard in a live drive through nativity scene for hours at a time. He attracted a crowd of spectators at the end of the event, with children and adults alike coming to see him, pet him and sit on him. In the same month, he was the man for the job when some bulls got loose and he was used to chase, catch, and load them. Just a few days later, our little girl who is 6 was loping him and using him as her own personal play set, by making him “sit like a dog” and sliding off him!

Leo loves people, loves other horses and other farm animals- even the goats and barn cats that are in and out of the stall with him all the time. He is easy to catch and will come right to you. He gets along well in the pasture with other horses, is quiet and clean in the stall, stands patiently in the crossties, stands quiet for the farrier, loads and hauls wonderfully and is truly a wonderful horse to be around. He is completely traffic safe. He is also great with tarps and whips and any other type of commotion.

Leo is a super unique, one-of-a-kind animal, being the crossbred that he is. With the best qualities from both the Percheron and the Friesian, Leo has made an extraordinary animal! His size, build, color, attitude, training, and mind set gives him limitless potential! In the last year that we owned Leo, he has become a family favorite for all of us. He is special to us, and we wish to see him be all that he can be with his forever family. He is extremely safe and gentle and has a great deal of experience under his belt, but we can also see that he is ready to go on and do bigger and better things. With his training and how well he stands and minds, he could be a carriage horse or even a mounted police horse. With his elegance and class, he could do dressage. He could even do fox hunting or jumping. With his capability, talent, and athleticism the sky is the limit with Leo. You can see all of this and more on our full YouTube video. Feel free to call with any questions at all!
